The Utah Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Division of Forestry, Fire, and State Lands (FFSL) issued a notice rescinding the Stage 2 fire restrictions in place in Washington County, including Dammeron Valley, Diamond Valley, Brookside, Gunlock, and Veyo.

According to the DNR:

Moderated fire danger indices and improved weather conditions have resulted in reduced wildfire hazard in Southwest Utah. As a result, Stage 2 fire restrictions (on all open fires) enacted by the above Closure Orders are hereby rescinded within the areas described below beginning July 31, 2026 at 0001 hours.

Fire danger is still expected to remain high as summer months progress; therefore,

Stage 1 fire restrictions enacted by Closure Order #SWCLO2601, SWCLO2602, SWCLO2603, SWCLO2604, & SWCLO2605 are still in place. These Stage 1 restriction orders include Washington County. This means the SR-18 corridor communities must still abide by Stage 1 restrictions, which prohibit the following:

• Campfires and open fires are not allowed outside of approved campgrounds and homesites without running water.
• Fireworks and pyrotechnics are banned outside of city limits and on public lands, with fireworks always prohibited on federally managed lands in Utah.
• Shooting of exploding targets, tracer ammunition, or incendiary rounds is not permitted.
• Metalworking (cutting, grinding, welding) in dry vegetation areas is prohibited.
• Operating equipment without a spark arrestor – including a motorcycle, chainsaw, ATV, or other small internal combustion engine equipment.
• Smoking near vegetation or outside of developed recreation sites, personal vehicles, or buildings is not allowed.

Campfires are allowed in established fire rings or home fire pits, and the use of charcoal grills is once again permitted.

Fire danger along the SR-18 corridor and in our Wildland Urban Interface (WUI) communities remains high, so please do all you can to mitigate risks. If you see smoke, call 911 and report it.
