The Dammeron Valley Community Fire Council (DVCFC) hosted Dammeron Valley Fire & Rescue (DVFR) Fire Marshall and Special Operations Chief John Hennessey to present the final wildfire preparation meeting of 2025. The meeting was attended by approximately 90 residents from multiple SR-18 communities and included new information about the implementation of Utah House Bill 48 (HB 48).
HB 48 becomes effective in January 2026 and introduces new rules for communities in High-Risk Wildland Urban Interface (WUI) zones to help reduce wildfire risk, improve defensible space around dwellings, and protect property values and insurance access. The meeting included the latest information from the State of Utah, the Utah Department of Forestry, Fire, and State Lands (FFSL), and Washington County regarding the implementation of the new rules and fees to homeowners.
Many of the details about the implementation of HB 48 are still in development by the State and counties that will be responsible for administering the programs required by the bill. Homeowners who live in High-Risk WUI zones are strongly encouraged to attend upcoming public meeting for an opportunity to ask questions and express concerns.
The State of Utah and the FFSL are hosting a public meeting in Cedar City, and anyone can attend in person or online. Details are below:
📅 Tuesday, 18 November
⏱️ 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM (includes presentation and Q&A)
