National Weather Service launches monthly Drought Impact Statements for Washington County

Writer: DVFRDVFR

With the introduction of Extreme Drought (D3) to Washington County, the Salt Lake City Forecast Office will be issuing monthly Drought Impact Statements. This will continue as long as any D3 or greater condition persists in Utah.

Washington County residents can access the Drought Impact Statements online at the Salt Lake City Forecasting Office's website.

The Extreme Drought condition makes wildfire preparation even more important for Dammeron Valley. As dry conditions persist, the risk of wildfire increases, so ensuring you have defensible space around your home and other buildings is critical.

DVFR encourages all residents to continue with fuels mitigation projects on your property, focussing on the areas immediately around your home. This includes removing dead brush and leaves, trimming trees, and implementing rock and other hardscape. Valley residents have been doing a great job preparing their properties and we want the momentum to continue!

Residents of Dammeron Valley may continue to bring chippable yard waste to Station 13 and add it to the pile at the back of the station. DVFR is working to bring in a chipper and will continue to look for ways to assist residents in reducing fuels ahead of this expected dry season.

Visit our Wildfire page to access resources that will help you build a mitigation and evacuation plan and report the hours you spend on your wildifre mitgation to help us maintain our Firewise designation.

You may also take the Insurability Survey to help drive the conversation with local and state leaders regarding important issues of insurance in vulnerable communities.
